1/8/2018 0 Comments Fur practice (acrylic)Painting fur with acrylic paint isn't too bad. I really like the technique using multiple layers of paint, lightening up the color of the paint for each layer. The fur in the picture on the left on the bottom is my favorite. I think I used the most layers in this one and I like the highlights I did with the white. For my animal portrait, I used this technique for the fur, using the coloring of the fur in the picture on the right except for the one on the bottom left. The blue/black/white fur color wasn't in my animal portrait. I used mainly browns, reds, whites, and blondish colors, maybe a little bit of black.
1/2/2018 0 Comments January 02nd, 2018For my animal portrait, I used acrylic paint and I used many different colors throughout the fur. I used blacks, browns, blonde, reds, and white/greys. This painting was very hard for me, animals are much harder for me than landscapes. For the texture, I tried to paint the fur to look soft. I painted it in the same direction as the fur was going in the picture I used of the horse. For the layering of the painting, I probably used about 5 different layers throughout the fur, I used the acrylic wash technique that we did in class. I layered the fur many times, going lighter and lighter each layer using blondes/whites/greys to do the lighter parts. I used darker colors such as black and dark brown in the darker values of the painting and I used blonde/white for the lighter values in the painting.
The aesthetic quality of this painting that stood out to me the most is the direction the fur goes, it makes the fur look neat and well painted. Throughout this project, I think I definitely got better at painting animals. I got to get lots of practice on painting fur during this project. The quality of this painting I think is mostly pretty neat and well done, I think I was very detailed with it. The things that I struggled with on this painting was the eye, the muzzle, and the different colors in the fur. Painting landscapes is more of my thing when it comes to deciding between animals/people and landscapes. Overall, I enjoyed this project and learned a lot. |
