1/8/2018 0 Comments Fur practice (acrylic)Painting fur with acrylic paint isn't too bad. I really like the technique using multiple layers of paint, lightening up the color of the paint for each layer. The fur in the picture on the left on the bottom is my favorite. I think I used the most layers in this one and I like the highlights I did with the white. For my animal portrait, I used this technique for the fur, using the coloring of the fur in the picture on the right except for the one on the bottom left. The blue/black/white fur color wasn't in my animal portrait. I used mainly browns, reds, whites, and blondish colors, maybe a little bit of black.
1/2/2018 0 Comments January 02nd, 2018For my animal portrait, I used acrylic paint and I used many different colors throughout the fur. I used blacks, browns, blonde, reds, and white/greys. This painting was very hard for me, animals are much harder for me than landscapes. For the texture, I tried to paint the fur to look soft. I painted it in the same direction as the fur was going in the picture I used of the horse. For the layering of the painting, I probably used about 5 different layers throughout the fur, I used the acrylic wash technique that we did in class. I layered the fur many times, going lighter and lighter each layer using blondes/whites/greys to do the lighter parts. I used darker colors such as black and dark brown in the darker values of the painting and I used blonde/white for the lighter values in the painting.
The aesthetic quality of this painting that stood out to me the most is the direction the fur goes, it makes the fur look neat and well painted. Throughout this project, I think I definitely got better at painting animals. I got to get lots of practice on painting fur during this project. The quality of this painting I think is mostly pretty neat and well done, I think I was very detailed with it. The things that I struggled with on this painting was the eye, the muzzle, and the different colors in the fur. Painting landscapes is more of my thing when it comes to deciding between animals/people and landscapes. Overall, I enjoyed this project and learned a lot. 9/21/2017 0 Comments oil paintingsTexture Landscape Oil Painting Self Evaluation 1. Describe the craftsmanship of your painting. (Is it neat and well executed?) In my painting, I tried to do many layers and go into a lot of detail in order to make it look neat and executed. I put a lot of effort into the different shades of green in the trees. 2. Describe your choice of colors/color harmonies and how you used them throughout the artwork. I used many different shades of green throughout the grass and the trees. In the mountains, I used blues, greens, grays, and white & black. I tried to put a lot of value in the mountains. 3. How did you create contrast in your painting? I tried to make the objects that were closer appear more detailed and brighter, while for the objects that were further away, I used less details and less bright and intense colors. 4. How did you apply textures, highlights and shadows to enhance your artwork? I put shadows under the trees and I tried to put some highlights in the trees. In the grass & trees, I tried to make the texture appear somewhat soft. In the clouds, I made them look fluffy. In the rocks, I tried to make them look sharp. 5. How were you able to create depth in your painting? For the objects that were closer up, I used more detail and brighter colors. For the objects farther away, I used less detail and less bright/intense colors. For example, for the mountains, the ones closer had more intense colors in them, and the ones farther away had more grays and blues. 6. What painting techniques did you use that made your painting successful? I tried to use lots of texture and detail, and I tried to use cool colors throughout the entire painting, which I thought brought it all together. 7. Describe any difficulties you had creating your drawing and what you could do to improve your drawing? I had trouble with the trees and the grass because both of these things required lots of detail and effort put into it. I could improve it by creating more contrast between the trees and the grass. 8. Explain the successes you had with this painting. I think the texture of the trees came out really well. I also love how the rocks look next to the grass. The mountains turned out pretty good, I wish they looked more realistic though. Still Life For the Still Life painting, I worked with oil paints. I used many different colors including yellow, red, orange, green, blue, etc. I tried to blend the colors together as well as I could, and I really tried to make this look realistic and 3D. I really struggled with the shadows and highlights. It is really hard to make the highlights look realistic on the fruits. I love how the pepper and the green apple came out. For this pallet knife painting, I used different shades of orange, yellow, red, brown, white, and green. This was the first time I've ever painted with oil, and used a pallet knife to paint, so it was a very interesting experience, but I liked it a lot. I wish I had more put more time and detail into the background, but other than that, I like it. To the left is an image of both of my Hundertwasser project composition sketches. I tried to make the border the fence in both of these sketches. I also made the Sun the focal point of the sketches. “Hunderwasser” Self Evaluation critique
1) My painting is very neat and for the most part it is well executed. I tried to blend the different greens and blues in the sky and hills as best as I could, but for the most part I think it is neat. 2) My painting has many bright colors and patterns, I think these are 2 of the main ideas Hunderwasser used in his paintings. Although I do wish I had used more patterns and made it look a little more unique. Describe your choice of colors/color harmonies and how you used them throughout the artwork. 3) The focal point of my art work I'd say is the sun. It stands out the most, it is what draws your attention when you first look at the painting I feel like. I wish I had made it pop out more though. 4) I tried to use texture in the trees and in the hills. I made the trees look fluffy and the hills look smooth. I used lots of curvy/round patterns such as the curvy hills, waves, and sun. 5) I put a border that was bright and colorful and popped out a lot, I used red and purple colors. I think it enhances the art work because it kind of stands out and adds something a little different to the art work. 6) Some difficulties I had were getting the hills to look smooth and round. I also had trouble blending the different shades of green in the hills. I wish I had made the painting a little more unique and I wish the sun popped out more. 9/21/2017 0 Comments Watercolor projectFor my watercolor painting I used this image to base my painting off of. This is an image of a flower that I found in my backyard. The three images above are in progress pictures of my painting. The one on the bottom is the final of my flower painting. I did not like using watercolor that much, it challenged me a lot and I struggled to get in to detail in the different areas of the painting. I did learn a lot from using watercolor though.
Watercolor Critique Questions 1. What water color techniques proved to be effective in your painting? How and why? Gradient, Wet on Dry and Dry Brush proved to be effective in my painting. I used gradient when coloring the flower petals to make it look more 3D. Wet on Dry was good for adding detail in the grass, flower and sky. Dry brush was good for adding texture. 2. How important was using transparent layers in your painting? If I hadn't started off with a very thin base coat over the painting, the painting would look a lot worse. Adding that base coat helps you to be able to put layers of paint on the painting. 3. Explain how your composition was successful? Did you utilize all the elements of art and principles of design? Explain. I tried my best to use the different elements such as balance, emphasis, repetition, etc. I emphasized the flower to make it stand out because this is the centerpiece of the painting. I balanced out the grasses and extra stuff so that it was equally in the background. I also used repetition in the flower petals to make it look as best as I could. 4. Was color choice an important factor in the overall success of the painting? Yes, color was a very important factor, although I wish I had used a color for the flower that stood out more, it kind of blends in. All of the colors are cool, soft colors therefore they all blend in a way. 5. Describe your craftsmanship. In this painting, I took a picture of a flower and painted it in watercolor. I tried to use cool colors for the flower such as blues, pinks, greens, and purples. For the background I used greens and blues and browns. 6. If you were able to do something different what would it be and why? I wish I had used different colors for either the background or the flower. They all blend together and the flower doesn't stand out as much as I'd like it to. I also wish I had added more texture to the painting. 7. Explain to me what you have learned about watercolor and how it has improved or discouraged your development in art. I have learned that watercolor takes lots of layers and blending. When you do this it makes your painting look so much better. I also learned about all of the different ways of using watercolor such as Wet on Wet, Dry on Wet, Wet on Dry, Gradient, Bleach, etc. It has improved my development in art because now I have more experience using watercolor. 1/13/2017 0 Comments PaintingShape Shading with Prisma In this picture I used colored pencils to practice blending colors. I used a light purple, dark purple, blue and white. Water Color Pencel Practice In this picture I used water color pencils to shade in the shape and then I added water to blend it and make it look like I had painted it. Value Chart and Forms For the value chart I just took a shade of blue and made a value chart. For the water color shapes I took a couple of different colors and tried to blend them together. Watercolor Apples For the water color apples I used many different types of color schemes and I tried to blend the colors the best I could. I didn't like using water color very much, but it was a good expermiment to see how I liked it. Complementary Colors: For this apple I used shades of red and green to paint this apple and dabbed the upper left with a paper towel to make it look like this. Warm Colors: For this apple I used shades of red, orange, and yellow to make it look the way it does. This apple reminds me of Fall because of the oranges and yellows. Cool Colors: For this apple I used shades of green and blue to make it look like this. I used darker blue on the left which is not being hit by the light source. Analogous Colors: For this last apple I used colors that were next to each other on the color wheel, I used blues, greens, and purples.
11/17/2016 0 Comments Artists solve problemsI really enjoyed doing both of these projects - they were lots of fun. For the earth project I used grocery bags and crunched the up into little balls then used a hot glue gun to glue them on to the earth. It turned out really good! For my flower project I used my fingers and acrylic paint to paint the flowers. I used different shades of different paints to make the flowers to look more realistic. I thought into turned out good!
10/27/2016 0 Comments artists' take a stand I did my Artists' Take a Stand project on the subject of pollution. I want people to know that when they litter, or smoke, or anything else, they are polluting and harming their home greatly. People need to stop and think before they dump their coke out the window, or throw their cigar on the ground. They are hurting their home and making it worse and worse each day. This needs to stop. That's why I made this for my Artists' Take a Stand project. I am going to hang this somewhere where it might make a difference.
